Routeburn and Kepler Tracks!

Finally getting out into the real wild seeing New Zealand at its best! Last Monday me and my two buddies Richie and Pete Set off for an expected 7 day hiking trip. starting with the Routeburn Track which was planned for 3 days. We did it in 1.5.... the guys killed it! The hike was the best hike i have every been on for many reasons. 1. It by no means was an easy hike. 2. The views were unreal and changed so much through out the hike. 3. Its New Zealand!
And were off!

Day 1 amazing rest spot had to sit down for a pb&j!!

New Zealand has some amazing hiking trails that are very well maintained along with a countless cable bridges with amazing views!

Me and Richie at the water fall that comes off the lake in the picture below. This was towards the end of day 1 so we decided we needed to go swimming.... well i was the first one in and after they saw the look on my face they knew the water was ice cold! So the idea of a swim turned into a jump in and out real quick! ha

I think this was my favorite lake. The mountains were so close.. the sound of the water fall rushing in the back and the view was just too good!!
Putting in work!
When we reached a little more than half way on the hike we decided that it was time to start looking for the dream camp spot! It didn't take long and i saw this shelf up in the mountains and knew that would be a great spot... the hike up was not easy getting up there...blazing our our own trail through waste high brush. Once we all got up there we agreed 110% was well worth the struggle getting up!

That night i knew i needed to stay up late because i needed to take a photo with the stars and the tents lit up and the guys were well keen for doing the same. We watched the sun fall behind the Darran Mountain Range then it started to set in .... its going to be a cold night!

The next day was a pretty chill day of hiking got to see this Beautiful waterfall!
And go for a swim in this crazy turquoise rock filled lake! Not much warmer than the first lake but bearable for a little swim!
Heres where the story starts ... BOOM! were done! AMAZING HIKE!!... So now on to the next one right!?... Well the guys had a little different plan.. they were dead! Bodies were shot. So they were gunna go to Milford sounds and go for a boat ride. I was going to hike the Milford track(the most amazing hike in the world). So we split up.. I Thumbed (new word for hitch hiking my dad told me to use) to the trail head and they thumbed to milford.   I got to the trail head and was in for a pleasant surprise.. If you know me i don't plan much ... well got there found out you need all these permits to camp back there and you need alpine experience to get over this one mountain pass which was 8 hours away. So i said the risk of tickets and having to turn around just wasn't worth it. So screw it! Now ill go to Milford also! I show up in Milford and the guys were so shocked to see me and wanted to know what was going on!? ha so i told them and they are like shit man!? thats sucks but we got to go get on the boat right now!! It leaves in a few mins..we run i bought a ticket and somehow we are back at it all riding this boat through milford sounds ha
Dry...Stoked...Free Tea

Milford is always real rainy and cloudy

Soaked... After math of Water Fall...Stoked
Got to see a bunch of lazy ass seals chilling on rocks

That night was crazy!! To make a long story short.. after the boat ride we took shelter in a bar till the rain stopped... Well yah see the rain never stopped ...and a few beers later we are running into the woods Drunk in the dark with headlamps on to set our tents up in the pouring rain so we could get some sleep. I was stoked to wake up dry and warm.

After that wild night had to have some tea and a great breakfast!
The sandflies are bad in NZ and i heard they were bad in Milford but shit after that rain they were so bad i had to pull out my bug net! hahaha

This is Milford Sounds on a sunny Morning ... lot different from the day before! Glad we got to see both rainy and sunny Milford!

Now this time was for real... we split up i thumbed my way to Te Auan to do the Kepler track.. 63km. It was sunny there so i got to dry my tent off before i set off again.

This hike was a much different hike. Almost double the length of the Routeburn and i was alone... it still had amazing views tho!

After day 1 i got an early start these clouds were still making there way up and out!

This shit never gets old!
Hands down best trail dessert! ... Oatmeal cookie with pb&j on top... try it out!

I did the 63km Hike in a little less than 2 days... i was beat!

Early morning still lake!

Now it was just me and the open road trying to get  ride back to Queenstown! Let me know what yah think! I appreciate all comments good or bad!

Skippers Canyon!

Its been a long week! so much has happened i have updates for a year! ha and if you know me you know i hate the computer so its not easy to sit here and pump these out!! But anyhow a week ago on a very hung over sunday me and a bunch of the boys set off to drive down into Skippers Canyon! Its one the the most dangerous roads in NZ! Its basically Sheer cliff on one side and not much room for error. But of course we still raged our way down the canyon in Adams beast of a work truck!

The whole drive you are either looking at amazing mountains or the river rushing down in the canyon!

Richie and Adam waiting for our buddy Devin to show up in his little off roading machine.

That little dot is me on top of these awesome rocks we stopped at to get out and climb all over!

Ben, Richie, Adam, Me up on top!
L-R.. Peter,Devin,Shane,Adam,Ben,Richie. The gang getting out once again to take in the amazing views.

After driving for 45 min we came upon this massive suspension bridge and used to have a bungie jumping set up on it!
The bungie platform ... i need to do this before i leave!!

This kinda gives you a good perspective of the drive down into the canyon. Adam was a great driver for the mission giving the work truck all she had goin fast and taking chances ha. Devin also works down in the canyon so he was a great tour guide! That night Richie Peter and I didn't make it home till way late and had plans to leave on a 7 day hiking expedition! Some how everything worked out amazing and with very little planning we set off on our next adventure.... i have tons of photos to go through for that update so expect a big one in a few days!

YEEEHAWW

Wow! Queenstown is amazing! Theres tons to do here and have gotten to meet a bunch of great people! Last few days have been packed full with adventures 2 of my new buddies has had off work part of the week and we have taken advantage of it!
Ment to post this when i got here.. just a shot of me riding to ChristChurch with all my stuff! i love being able to ride out of the airport!

Every night so far me and the gang below have been cooking up a storm! Its amazing how fast you can really get to know people and feel like you have known them forever!

One day there was a storm rolling in ... why not get the gang together and go out in the lake during it!... the water in the lake is soooo cold! hence the wetsuits haha

Early this week while everyone was at work i hiked up to the top of Ben Lonmond ...the hike up was great ... the hike down i thought id get crazy and make my own trail! well that was a bad idea! The mountain was so steep i was more less sliding down the whole thing! I felt like it took a hour longer than the normal path would have taken and by the time i came out of the woods i probably looked like i had been in there for months and needed help! i was covered in dirt and twigs hanging off me! Not to mention i walked out in to a nice neighborhood! haha few cuts and scrapes in the end... good fun was had!
This is why i went the other way there was so many jagged rocks and it looked amazing!

I was wishing i could have a picture taken of me on this rock so i took one of this random person!

After getting cleaned up from the hike everyone said we were going to 20cent wing night!! i said hell yea! ...  Me, Pete, Richie ordered 100 wings... got 110..and 2 things of fries! .... i ate 40 wings myself and thought i was going to die! the good thing is all the wings got eaten.. we did not eat all of them but gave the few remanding away!

So we were giving a car that we could use for a few days while a friend is out of town.. we decided to drive to a place called paradise.. yeah leave paradise to go to paradise weird i know!Either way i got to drive on the wrong side of the road for the first time!
Richie and Pete rainy days don't stop us!!

We wanted so badly to get to that water fall! ... maybe next sunny day we can wade thought the river!

Richie found this skull!

We were a little reckless driving our friends car and had a real interesting last few days getting the car back to Queenstown to get a new starter put in:( Sam if you see this it will be fixed before your back! haha shit!

I took this picture with Pete's Fixed 50mm lens after getting towed out we needed to chill out so we had a few beers and fished while we waited for our buddy adam to come save the day and bring us back to Queenstown! Thanks bud!

The guys have a random kayak with no paddle so i took it out one day and used a shovel for my paddle!

I love Mountains!!

Drive to Paradise is amazing!

Paradise!

Rainy day ends in a rainbow! Not bad at all!
